One of the benefits of being a media partner to the Irish Film & Television Academy is having the opportunity to attend the star-studded awards ceremony and this year I was the lucky member of the Kantar Media team who got to attend.
From drinking champagne with Colm Meaney to dancing with Michael Fassbender, it really was a night to remember. However, the most touching moment of the night was when Steve Coogan took to the stage with Philomena Lee, to collect the award for Best International Film. There was a very long and heartfelt standing ovation for a wonderful woman with a heartbreaking story.
During the ceremony itself we were paying special attention to five categories – Best Film, Lead Actor in a Film, Lead Actress in a Film, Drama and Entertainment Programme – to see if the predictions we had taken from social media share of voice would come true. It turned out that social media users had it right on three awards out of the five.
|Best Film||The Stag||Calvary|
|Lead Actor||Andrew Scott||Brendan Gleeson|
|Lead Actress||Saoirse Ronan||Saoirse Ronan|
|Drama||The Fall||The Fall|
|Entertainment Programme||Moone Boy||Moone Boy|
Given that Calvary still hasn’t been released for viewing by the general public it was at a disadvantage in terms of garnering support on social media. Had the release date been earlier, perhaps our predictions for Best Film and Lead Actor would have been very different!
Congratulations to all the winners and the nominees and thanks to IFTA for an amazing night!
